10 months old

Big boy Jack keeps getting bigger.  I can’t believe it!  And NO this is not an announcement of any kind whatsoever, but I keep thinking, oh my goodness he is getting so much older which means I sorta have to start thinking about another baby in the near future.  I can’t imagine being prego again!  Blah.  So it must not be time just yet!  Thank goodness.

Some of the highlights of our week…

…more swimming!  And with all his Cosby aunts and uncles.  He loves his new flotation device…kind of.  He mostly likes for you to hold him so he can dip his face in the water.

…a kiddie parade and breakfast at the park for the 24th of July with our ward.  He loved the woodchips still and leading Daddy where ever he wanted to go.

….cereal and the Today Show with Mommy.  These pictures really make him look like a full-blown child.  As for me, I have a severe case of “morning look” going on.  Oh well…

…the STAIRS!  Um…I must have been on the stairs at least 75% of Jack’s waking hours yesterday.  It is making me semi-crazy!  He loves them so much.  But he still doesn’t know how to get down.  I made a conscious effort yesterday to not take him down them myself.  He has to learn especially if he is going to live his life on them because, well, I don’t want to!  He loves the railing the most.  And no matter how hard I try to distract him with everything I can think of, he still finds his way back and always looks back to me as if to say, “Hey lady, aren’t you going to follow me up here?”  Funny boy.

So I have no idea what to title this post ’cause well, we are in another one of those “nothing really exciting going on” moments of life.  We have just been up to our normal routine which is good and happy.  So here are a few shots from the week gone by.

So Jack has this little squeaker goose toy.  One day he put the whole thing in his mouth and left it there for like 30 minutes while he played with his toys.  It is was cracking me up.  And I also could not believe that it didn’t make him gag.  It takes up his entire mouth.  I would have gagged within minutes.

We took Jack to the pool in our little neighborhood for the first time.  He LOVED it!  He laughed so much.  He especially loved when Dan went under the water and came up making a big splash.  I think it is time to invest in some sort of flotation device.

Jack loves bathtime.  Usually after I undress him in his room he crawls right out the door and into the bathroom for his bath.  On this night, he saw his books and thought that was a better activity, I guess.  I thought it made for a very cute photo.

My greatest friend Roxy is in town this week with her family from Texas.  We went to Springville on Monday night to celebrate her daughter’s first birthday.  It was so much fun.  I hope that Lucia and Jack with wed someday.  That will make me the happiest.  They played well together so I am taking that as a good sign of love down the road!  Our good friend Jamie came by too with her adorable kiddies.  It was like a little college reunion.  How I wish we lived next door to each other so we could play everyday!

Anniversary and Daddy Time

0260042

Today is my 2nd wedding anniversary, and I guess the saying is true…”Time flies when you’re having fun.”  I can’t believe its been 2 years.  It seems like yesterday.  And since just the other day Dan said that our blog is not for sappy, lovey crap, I will just say that I love him and we are super happy!

Jack loves his Daddy.  I was told early on that no matter how hard I tried, my boy would never think of me as he thinks of his daddy.  Boys just admire their dads in different ways.  And I already see it coming true.  I don’t feel bad about it.  I know Jack loves me.  But he really loves his dad.  I love watching him crawl to the front door so fast when he hears Dan come home.  And I love how much he laughs when Dan is playing with him.  It is super cute.  Here are some of the photos from yesterday’s playtime.

Chore Time!

I am convinced Jack is ready for his first chore chart.  He loves to help with everything.  Someday I know he will despise the chore chart, but for now, I like to dream that he will love it as he does today.

He has superhuman hearing when it comes to the dishwasher being opened.  He crawls so fast to get to it.  And it breaks his heart when I close it before he gets there.  And who says this kid doesn’t have Grossen eyes.  Look at the first picture!

He also loves to help with the laundry and is fascinated with the dryer.  I hope he crawls in one day so we can snap a classic photo of that.

He likes to help me with my make-up, which I am thankful for, cause unlike some people, I loathe the getting ready routine.

And of course, outdoor chores which will inevitably end up on his list.  Doesn’t every male child have to be the lawn-mower at some point in life?  He loved the sprinklers.  It reminded him of the splash area on our cruise, I think.  He was happy as a lark until he was soaked and shivering!

And finally I had to include these pictures that Richard took on the Fourth of July.  Can you even believe how cute they are?  He sure wouldn’t look at me when I was trying to take a picture, but as soon as Grandpa came with his beauty of a camera, he was all smiles.  Funny boy.

And because I forgot about one hundred things that Jack is up to now that he’s nine months…here they are!  He sleeps through the night, he loves to read stories, he refuses his binkie, so we have given it up, his first tooth is in without too much drama, he waves bye-bye, he still loves everyone including all strangers and animals, and the pictures are not deceiving you, his hair really is starting to lay down, which has made us realize how long it is getting, which has made us think that perhaps a haircut might be in the near future!  Stay tuned.

Nine months and the 4th

I know I say this with every post about Jack…but who can believe that he is 9 months old already???  I cannot.  We went to the doctor last week for his check-up.  He is a strong and healthy little man.

20 lbs. 7 oz. (50th percentile)

30 inches (90th percentile)

47 cm. head (90th percentile)

He is really developing his talking voice a lot.  He loves to say Dadadada the most.  We bought a new little push/walking toy for him.  He had absolutely no learning curve with it.  We stood him up in front of it and he pushed it right across the room.  And, of course, got mad when he was stuck against the wall.  He loves to walk everywhere holding your fingers.  But he instantly clams up when you start to let go.  So I think walking might still be a month or so away.

He pretty much eats everything these days.  And he still has yet to meet something he did not like.  He even ate mushrooms off our pizza the other night.  This love for everything edible led to our first call to poison control on Sunday.  He was playing in our “office” garbage can here by the desk while Dan and I got ready for church.  As we were heading out the door, I noticed he had pink all over the collar of his shirt.  I immediately got worried remembering back to the time I threw away one of Dan’s iron pills in that garbage because I found it on the floor and didn’t know what it was.  Sure enough, upon further investigation, I found the pill with all of the red coating sucked off on our bedroom floor.  I guess once he got the sugary coating off and tasted the actual iron pill, he realized it was disgusting and spit it out.  I didn’t think much of it since he didn’t seem to get too much of the actual pill until we read the bottle and it said that iron overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in children.  Say what?  Who knew that?  Anyway, the guy Dan talked to said he was fine.  Even if he has ingested the whole pill, he would have been fine.  But we were in panic mode for a brief moment.  Not the last panic moment in our lifetime, I am sure.

We had a great Fourth of July.  We went up the Granite community’s pancake breakfast and that night was the traditional Pett family carnival and BBQ.  It was such a lovely time.  I feel complete now that I have one of Grandmas’ home-sewn purses that I picked up with my carnival tickets.  Jack loved all of the kids and being outside.  We missed the fireworks this year.  It gets dark here so late.  Jack was into a deep sleep by the time they started.  Perhaps next year, with an almost 2-year-old, we will be able to stay out a little later and enjoy my favorite part of the holiday.   Until then, we were content to watch all of the shows in the Salt Lake Valley from our bedroom window.  Happy Birthday America…you are the greatest!

California Dreamin’!

Jack and I just got back last night from our trip to California to see my parents.  We had a wonderful visit.  Thanks Grandpa and Grandma.  It is no shock to anyone that I do love California.  As I sat on the beach last week I thought, I could really get used to this.  A blanket on the beach, sitting under the umbrella, drinking a cold water from the little cooler and watching Jack play in the sand.  It is ideal really.

But we are so happy to be home with Dan.  We missed him.  Jack can’t stop smiling when he sees him.  And neither can I really!

Our first stop after the airport was the Gaffey Street Diner in Long Beach.  It was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives awhile back.  And, well, I love that show so my dad wanted to take us there.  It was a good breakfast stop.  I love blueberry pancakes and they were ginormous.  We then went down to Santa Monica Beach.  We walked to the pier.  Grandpa tried to convince Jack to touch the brown pelican.  I thought I might die at the thought since that is one huge and ugly bird!

Jack liked the cold California water and the soft, soft sand.  He crawled after the pigeons and seagulls, smashed the sandcastles my dad made and dug all over with his hands.  At one point he just wanted to show the sand some love and face planted right in the sand on purpose and laughed when he came up.  I was dying.  It was too funny.

The rest of the time we just chilled in the B-town.  We ran errands, made ice cream, went to Church, had BBQ, played cards and went for long walks.  It was relaxing and nice.  Jack was a little saint baby.  He slept all night every night and took better naps there than at home.  He loved the neck pillow my parents had.  It made him so happy.  He even made his super funny face for Grandma which made her super happy.  A bit of “Jack news” from the trip…we can see his first tooth.  Since I am not a expert teething parent yet, I can’t tell you how far away it is from coming through, but it is definitely there and close, I think.

Yesterday we drove down early to the L.A. area.  My mom watched Jack while I went to the temple.  I was so happy to go the Los Angeles Temple.  It was lovely.  Plus I got to show Jack where his mommy and daddy got married.  Then we stopped in Whittier to visit with my Aunt Claire.  I miss seeing all of my cousins!  I hope we can reunite sometime soon.  After that, we flew home.  Jack is an expert traveller.  I am so lucky.  Thanks again mom and dad for a wonderful time!  See you in 4 1/2 weeks!
