Last 2 weeks

We’ve had a lot happen in the last few weeks which I did not take nearly enough pictures of.  It is so disappointing that I am not that great at taking photos.

First off, Sophie Darlene turned 10 months on the 10th.  She is crawling, pulling herself up, walking along everything, letting go with one hand and getting too big, too fast.  She cut her first tooth about a month ago now and the second one is almost here.  She now eats everything we eat.  No more baby food.  She is a GREAT eater and has liked everything so far (including enchiladas last night for dinner that were even a little spicy).  We started whole milk a few weeks ago cause she has become quite the biter during breastfeeding.  Not my favorite thing.  I have tried to stick with it though since she only feeds 2 times/day now.  Not sure if she’ll make it the whole 12 months cause with more teeth coming in, I’m not sure I can do it.  But she likes whole milk just fine and drinks almost a full sippy cup everyday.  She is sleeping better at night finally, but isn’t perfect still.  She can say a few words (Jack, mama, dada, Na-Na (night, night)).  She LOVES babies-real and pictures.  She’s had a few successful pony tails in her hair which means it is growing and getting thicker.  She is so cute!

My parents were town.  We had a lot of fun and they helped me with some household projects.  We played a lot of cards this trip which is my favorite.  I failed to take one picture of either of them.  Bad on my part.  But we love them and were glad they were here with us.  Ryan, Kara and Isaac stopped for a brief weekend visit too.  It had been like 4 months since I last saw them.  Way too long.

Some of those pictures are way blurry, but aren’t they the cutest?  Probably explains why both babes got colds!  A little too much lovin’!

And I guess some more news, I turned 30!  I know, I know…it seems impossible, right?  Well, its true.  I feel fine about it and just feel so blessed to have such a wonderful life and family.  Here’s to my next 30 years…woohoo!

Herways in the House

The past 2 weeks Dan’s sister and her family have been in town from NYC.  It was so wonderful to see them again.  We definitely don’t see them enough in my book.  We did a lot of things while they were here.  Jack loved his little playmates, Rachel and Tommy, sometimes more than they wanted to be loved I think.  And Tommy did take some abuse from Jack…sorry little buddy.  Sweet baby Kate is only one week older than Sophie girl and they loved sitting side by side and picking at each others’ faces, toes, hands, etc.  So cute.  Thanks for making the long journey Herways.  We miss you already!

We visited Temple Square and went to the Church History Museum.  The kids loved all the hands-on stuff.  That afternoon we did a slip and slide.  It was so cute watching the kiddos try to figure out how to do it.  Not sure they ever figured it out, but they still loved it.  And just look how cute Kate is.  Love her.

We went to a water park one day.  Jack loved his melty ice cream cone and Sophie could not get enough of the water!

We got to spend the 4th of July together.  I love it.  The pancake breakfast and parade are fast becoming my favorite holiday tradition.  And with the legalization of huge fireworks, we had a pretty spectacular show right in the neighborhood.  Jack was not sure about fireworks by the end of the night.  But one thing is certain, I love them!  I hope he’ll come around someday.

We spent a weekend in Park City which was lovely.  We shopped, did the alpine slides, ate good food, went out on the lake and played!

All of our late nights and missing naps has really caught up to us here at the Grossen house.  Both kiddos were running high fevers Sunday and Monday.  Turns out Jack has a nasty sore throat (but thankfully tested negative for Strep) and Sophs has an ear infection.  Hopefully we’ll be back up to speed by tomorrow when my parents get into town for more fun.

I just have to include these few photos cause they need to be documented.

Jack loved coloring with the chalk outside and on the 4th colored a “firework”.  He was pretty proud of it.

I had the best time watching Jack bond with Rachie.  He LOVES her and always wanted to be where she was.  By the end of the trip, I think Rachel had had her fill of the Jack man (he can be a little over bearing in the boundary depart because he doesn’t have any!), but I hope he looks up to her always!  Hiiiiiii, Rachel!

This past week we (minus Dan) spent in sunny California.  We decided to make it a surprise for my parents which was pretty fun.  They love their grandbabies.  And I love the help.  Let’s give Kerri a big thumbs up for being my traveling companion.  It is not easy traveling with 2 kiddos.  But she was a champ and the kids were not half bad either.  I love California for many reasons, but mostly because it means family time.

Hangin’ out at Grandma and Grandpa’s.  I thought letting Sophie go off the one step would teach her that she didn’t know how to do it…but it didn’t work so well.  She just kept nose-diving off.  But it didn’t seem to bother her.

We went to a splash park.  Jack loved it.  Sophs was a little unsure.  It was super fun to watch them play.

The beach is must on every trip to CA now.  Jack loves it.  So although it is a bit of a drive, it is worth it.  The kids loved the sand.  And Sophie hated the ocean.  I don’t blame her.  It was freezing!

Jack became quite the swimmer on this trip.  I felt so proud of him.  On our last day there, we went to the Petersen’s to swim and Sophie finally warmed up to the water.  Hooray.

It was an awesome trip.  Thanks for letting us surprise you Mom and Dad.
