Our newest niece is here.  And we love her!  It has been close to 7 years (unbelievable!) since a Grossen grandchild has been born in Utah besides our own kids and it is just so fun!  I love being an aunt and am so happy for the Trujillos.

“It’s Minmee!”

Our daughter is a Disney lover.  Holy cow!  She knows all the characters on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  But “hot dog” (i.e. Mickey) and “Minmee (i.e. Minnie) are her favorite!  And since her Grandma Grossen saw her love for Minnie at the Disney Store last weekend, she now has her very own Minmee doll.  Thanks Grandma!  She loves it and one day this week she took it with her everywhere.

And here is Jack on the same day in the clothes he dressed himself in that morning.  It was 95 degrees outside.  Yuck!

Zoo Day Hooray

Utah’s Hogle Zoo recently opened their new Rocky Shores area which now houses bald eagles, sea lions, seals, river otters, black bears and a polar bear.  It is really a nice new area of our zoo.  We have been a couple of times since the new exhibit opened and unfortunately the one time I brought the camera the new animals were pretty inactive.  But we have seen them swimming and playing in the water.  Even the polar bear was diving around.  Pretty cool.  So these pictures are not that exciting but at least you get a picture of the new Rocky Shores.

Don’t you just love the family of elephants!  So great.  And I had to take a picture of this bird cause as soon as Sophie saw it she said “Rio”.  That is her favorite movie and this bird made her the happiest.  Look at my little baby gorillas…they are getting so big.  And finally my attempt to take a self picture which really just looks like I have Sophs in a choke hold.  Oops.

Camping and Sleep

Last weekend Dan and Jack headed up to the Father and Kids camp-out with our ward.  Sophs and I were left behind and poor little Sophie was just devastated.  She cried so much when they left and just looked all around the house like she was lost without her constant buddy around.  Anyway…camping was great until night came.  It was so windy that the tent kept collapsing in on the boys.  Jack was in and out of sleep and kept waking up scared.  Dan never could fall asleep until they decided about 3 am to climb in the back of the van.  There they both slept like rocks until about 7:15.  So it was a long night.  But at least they got to eat marshmallows and play in the fire.  Every little boys dream!

My kids have fallen asleep at weird times and in funny places the last couple of weeks.  Sometimes my Jack loves to fight taking his nap.  But I am pretty mean and rarely give up.  Its a test of wills and 99% of the time, I win the battle.  This day he finally gave it up about 2:45 right on top of Pluto.

Sophie has been a little under the weather this last week.  Just not acting herself.  We had 2 wedding receptions, 2 nights in a row which kept her up late.  All that combined led her to fall asleep on the carpet during story time right before nap.  This has never happened in our house so it had to be documented.

Finally, my dad is sort of a BBQ master.  His tri-tip is pretty exceptional.  We have been trying to muster the courage to try to make some on our own for a few years now.  And we finally got brave and, guess what?  It was amazing.  Thanks Brad for letting us in on the tricks of the trade.

It Starts

Jack has taken a real interest in dressing himself lately.  Which is really great cause its one less thing that I have to do.  But sometimes his outfits of choice are not exactly what I would have chosen.

We have been putting our zoo pass to good use the last couple of weeks.  And we were even able to meet our friends, Annie and Caleb, there last week.  They moved away about a month ago so we were so happy to see them!

Both of my kiddos have been sort of anti-hats there whole lives despite my best efforts!  But one day Jack saw his swim hat and decided he wanted to wear it.  And just because brother was doing it, Sophie wanted to participate too.  They look so cute.  Hopefully this is a start of a new trend.
