Done and done!  I completed my first half marathon yesterday.  It was not too bad.  There were points where I thought I might die (miles 8-10) but I just pushed through.  My goal was to make it in under 2 hours 30 minutes and although I don’t know my official time yet, I crossed the finish line somewhere around 2:24!  Hooray.  So I’m not the fastest runner but I did run the whole thing.  And I felt pretty proud about that.  In reality, 13.1 miles is pretty far.  When I look at it on a map, it is crazy to me that I could accomplish that!  Hooray!  I sorta hope to run another race this fall.  But I think my body needs a little resting period.  Maybe by next week I can talk myself into it.  We’ll see…

These are the pics before the race.  These girls were miles ahead of me, but it was fun to know that I wasn’t enduring the pain alone.  So proud of them for crossing the finish line under 2 hours!

And just because we were in Logan, Kerri and I had to drive by our old childhood house.  It did bring back some memories and recollections even though I was only 5 when I moved from there.

California Love

Me and the kiddos just got back from a week in California with my parents.  It was so lovely.  I love trips where my kids stay on schedule and, therefore, are decent creatures the whole time.  We did quite a few fun things and my kids had the best time.  Jack is always talking about B-Town and how excited he is to be back there for Christmas.

The kids had fun hanging out at home.  They love Grandma’s train and blocks.  Jack learned how to play Mah Jong all by himself on the computer and has even finished a few games on his own.  He amazes me.

We went bowling one morning.  I can’t get over the cuteness of the tiny bowling shoes on Sophs feet.  I broke the 100 barrier but just because we had bumpers!

We went up to mountains one night and had a campfire and s’mores.  It was a lot of fun and so nice to get out of the heat of Bakersfield.  It really is so hot there.  I can’t believe I ever survived living there.  I am always amazed at how fast these little ones get dirty.  It only takes mere minutes really.  And one fact is certain…our Jack Jack is a pyro!  He is obsessed with fire!

We also went to the Bugseum.  It was a small place but it was free which we love.  Jack loved this play campfire set they had.  And Sophs was mesmerized by one of the grasshoppers.  She couldn’t stop looking at it.

On our last day in CA, we stopped at the Long Beach Aquarium.  It was a lot of fun with some very hands on exhibits for the kids.  We all touched a bat ray, starfish and jelly fish.  And we, of course, found Nemo which was very exciting.

Our last stop before the airport was Huntington Beach.  I love it there.  It is always so fun.  And my kids are at a very fun age for the beach.  Jack loved the water this time especially when Grandpa showed him how to dig for sand crabs.  Sophs was not interested in the water at all, but she loved digging.  I was a super paranoid mom and lathered my kids up with sunscreen like every 30 minutes.  There is nothing worse than a sunburn.  Thankfully, they came out burn free.  I love the beach.

And since it was Sophie’s first flight ever and Jack hasn’t flown since before he was one, I tried to document the flight home.  These were the best pictures I got!  But we survived without throw-up on the way home (not so lucky on the flight out…poor Jack) and had the best trip!  Thanks Jannie and Brad.

Catching Up

I feel so behind on this blog!  So here are a collection of pictures from July.

My parents got the kids this water table for their birthdays.  We opened it early so we could enjoy it this summer.  This is the first time they played with it.  It didn’t take long for them to start pouring in dirt, grass and rocks which is now the norm despite my requests to keep the water clean.  They like to make “soup” and stir it with the baseball bat.  Oh well…they still love it.

Sophie and her friends, Aubrey and Maya.  These little girls are so cute together.  Me and the other moms have taken turns watching the little girls while their older siblings were all in the same swimming class together.  They loved having free reign of the toys without their older siblings to boss them around!  They are so chatty together.  It is pretty cute.  Now Sophs asks almost daily “Where Au-bee and Maya?”

We have enjoyed some fun outings lately.  Dan finally got to meet us at the soon and see the new Rocky Shores area.  The polar bear was super active that night and it was so fun.  He came right up the glass and looked at the kids right before pushing off the wall and diving back into the water.

We also went to Draper Days on the last night mostly just to watch the fireworks.  But the fire department was there letting kids spray their hose.  Jack was in pure heaven.  The fireworks did not start until 10:30 pm which is super late for our kids.  Sophie was on the verge of being terrified.  And by the end Jack was getting pretty restless.  But he wasn’t scared which made me glad cause I love firework shows.

And lastly, my college roommate JooLin came into town for a short weekend visit.  We went down to Provo one afternoon and went to Bridal Veil Falls.  It was super lovely and Jack loved playing the freezing water.  We went to the Bookstore and Sophs was obsessed with these bracelets.  She loves a chance to be girlie!  It was so fun to spend time with Joo even though we didn’t do much.
