California here we come…

Near the end of February we journeyed to California for a much needed vacation.  I was nervous about the drive with little Luke.  A 10 hour ride is not really meant for babies.  But he did pretty well.  He had his moments as I expected but really for the most part he was happy.   Jack and Sophie are perfect travelers.  We really are so lucky there.

Our first stop was Uncle Mike and Aunt Tiffany’s house for a few days.  We spent time at the beach, ate some delicious tacos and enjoying their backyard and the warm weather.  It was so nice.  We loved our stay with them.  They are really such gracious hosts and don’t mind the occasional child meltdown.  We spent a day at Newport Beach and went to Balboa Island for a frozen banana.  We rode across on the car ferry and it was pretty neat for all of us.  I love Orange County.  Why does it have to be so expensive?  Sigh…

The next 3 days of our trip we spent at Disneyland.  And it was the funnest.  I seriously love it.  I know that I say that every time we go…but it is true.  I think its the best.  Our kids had a great time.  Sophie was tall enough to ride most everything.  And Jack’s fears have completely subsided except for Tower of Terror.  He loved Goofy Sky School and the Cars Ride.  He rode Indiana Jones for the first time and loved it!   And Sophie can not get enough of the Little Mermaid ride.  We were so glad that my parents could come and that Uncle Deeds made the journey from Boise to spend 2 days with us.  Luke was a champ and learned to love sitting up like a big boy in the stroller.  We rewarded him with a small taste of cinnamon sugar on his lips from our churro.  He loved that.  Until next time Disney…we will be patiently waiting!

Our final leg of the trip was a few days in the B-town at my parent’s house where we like to play games and eat Sequoia cookies.  It was nice to relax for a few days before the drive home.  My mom came back with us and really saved us in the car with Luke.  When he would start to cry she was able to entertain him in the back.  It was so nice.  We loved our trip and can’t wait until next time!

Herways in the House

In mid-February Dan’s sister and her family made the journey west from NJ.  It was so fabulous to see them.  It had been almost a year and half.  A lot has changed since they were last here, we’ve added 3.5 babies (Dan’s sister Brittany is pregnant with #2) to the family and the former little ones are now all grown up.  It was so fun to see all of the older kids playing together.  It made my heart glad.  We did a lot of fun things but mostly, I just enjoy sitting around the house chatting about life.  My kids still talk about their cousins and how much fun they had.  So glad to know that we will see them again in 2014 aboard the cruise ship!

Jack was able to go skiing for his first time.  He did a great job and loved having hot chocolate at the end of the day!  Dan also got to enjoy a day on the slopes with Melanie, Jake and Richard.  So lucky and what beautiful weather!

We went to the zoo one morning and the boys followed that up with a trip to a Monster Truck show.  Jack and Tommy were in little boy heaven!

We went to Brick Oven one day for lunch with Grandma Pett.  All of the older cousins wanted to sit a booth together.  How grown up is that!

The Ice Castles in Midway were super busy because it was the last day of the year.  But the kids still enjoyed their time especially when they met Elsa and Anna from Frozen.

And here are just a random collection of pictures from the week.  I especially love when me and Ellia were twins one day.  We both have excellent taste.  It was great to meet sweet Lily who is 2 months older than Luke.  I loved when Rachel wanted to do service for someone which led the the 3 oldest grabbing push brooms to clean the neighbors’ walkways.  And the day Tommy and Jack came up from the basement in Grandpa’s hats and glasses was pretty priceless.  With no naps and late nights, I often came home with sleeping kiddos.  We had such a fun fun time!

January happenings

We had a great month of January.  The weather was “warm” most of the time which meant no snow, sunshine, little inversion and about 35 degrees.  I’ll take it.  I usually just dread January, but this year it was not half bad and really just flew by!

This boy is growing bigger.  He is an expert at tummy time, enjoys short stints in the bumbo, found his hands and loves to suck them, and is full of cute, cute smiles and laughs.  We think he is our smiliest baby.  Sure do love this one!

This lady is fun and sassy all in one.  She loves princesses.  One day I was cleaning the bathroom and she wanted to be “Cinderella” and help out.  Well go right ahead Cinderelly!  She suggested wearing the apron and everything.  She is an expert bike rider and loves it.  We are looking forward to warmer days ahead.

This guy is a great big brother.  He is always willing to make Tooter Baby happy.  He adores preschool.  One day a dragon for Chinese New Year appeared when we went to pick him up.  He loves his teacher, Mrs. King.  And we got to have a little Mommy/Son date to In-n-Out which he chose because “I know you don’t like McDonalds, Mom.”  Smart buddy.  He proceeded to eat the same exact meal as me, cheeseburger and fries.  One hungry 5-year-old!
