Summer Wrap Up

We sent summer out on a high note this year with a 5 day trip to Boise, a morning at the zoo with friends, Boondocks mini golf and Chick Fil-A lunch and many afternoons spent with friends.  Despite kind of dreading the thought of summer where I knew I would have to break up sibling conflicts and battling screen time requests, I really thought it was so fun and enjoyed our carefree life quite a bit.  There were plenty of days that we had 4+ friends here at once and it was just good.  I was kind of sentimental to see it go!

Zoo Day

We love our buddies, the Ostler’s.  We don’t see them enough!  We were able to meet up at the zoo one morning.  It was totally fun and the kids had the best time together.  Wish we were still across the street neighbors!

We spent a long weekend in Boise in the middle of August.  Kerri and Porter joined us which made the drive so much faster for me!  Always nice to have someone to talk to and help pass out the treats from the front seat.  It was our last trip to Boise because both of my brothers moved away over Labor Day weekend.  I felt pretty sentimental about that one.  Jack was so sad about it too.  He just kept saying, ” I have loved coming here all these years.  I’m going to miss this house.”  Pretty cute.  But we are excited that everyone is now closer!  Deeds and Kimmy moved to Rexburg and the Cosby family moved to Pleasant Grove!  Hooray!  We didn’t do too much while we were there.  We helped Kara pack up a few thing and clean the house to get it ready to sale.  The kids played a lot.  A random thing happened this trip and Jack took two naps on two consecutive days!  One was on me and one was at church.  He slept through the whole Sacrament meeting.  It was the craziest thing!  I had to document!  We did manage to go to the Owhyee County Fair and Rodeo which was pretty awesome.  The kids enjoyed seeing the horses and eating funnel cakes.  I learned that I am super allergic to horses.  I was sneezing like crazy!  It was a great time!

Pictures from our morning trip to play mini-putt, a group of friends playing in our basement, my old BYU roommate Joo Lin came to visit with her family and Sophie thought it was so fun to have so many girls to play with!, going to Daddy’s work and enjoying the food trucks, sunny soccer selfie, and a picture of my favorite thing about the month of August in Utah–the wild sunflowers that pop up everywhere!  I love them!

Soccer Days

August days and nights were full of soccer!  Sophie did a 3 week soccer camp with her cousin Avery at the local rec center.  It was so cute and fun to see them play.  Sophie was really good and had a lot of fun.  She practiced her ever-present mothering skills when Avery was sad or shy or if another kid got hurt.  She is a great lady.  Jack started soccer in August too.  He was able to be a team with his friend Braden.  He had games on Tuesday and Saturday and practice on Wednesdays.  So it was busy, busy, busy!  It was his best season yet!  He scored a goal in every game.  He even went coast-to-coast on one of those goals!  He was very aggressive.  We were very proud of him.  He had the most amazing coach this year who really was invested in teaching the kids skills.  It was awesome.  And it really showed on the field.  They only lost one game all season.  Way to go Silver Wolves!

Herways Visit

In July we had a week long visit from the Herways and we had the best time!  We spent a lot of our time just hanging out and making memories.  Our older kids really love to be together and it is so fun to see them play.  Luke and Lily fast become buddies but still had a few stand offs over toys and such.  I mean they are almost 2 after all!  One day Alyson hosted a drive in movie so we spent the morning decorating cars out of boxes and then that night we watched a movie under the stars with candy and popcorn.  It was a lot of fun and so very cute.  The next day we spent with Grandma Pett.  She did a Pioneer Day celebration where we learned more about our ancestors.  It was very cool to hear their stories.  One afternoon Jack, Sophie and Rachel wanted to do a lemonade stand which was super cute.  And they made $10 from some very generous customers.  We were even able to have our cousins stay at our house one night which the kiddos loved!  Melanie and I stayed up until 4 am talking that night like two teenagers!  Our 30 year old selves really paid the price for that the next day!  Over the 24th we were able to go the Gardner Family Ranch near Cedar City for some camping and outdoor fun.  It was so beautiful there.  And we really enjoyed our time riding the ATV, exploring, shooting guns, watching the sunset on the ridge and eating tons of good food.  We always have so much fun with family!  Our little Luke did come down with an ear infection while we were there and he made everyone’s first night quite miserable.  He was literally up all night long moaning, groaning and crying.  Poor baby.  And we all had the worst allergies ever…non-stop sneezing!  But we know for next time that we must bring the Claritin!  It was an awesome week and we were sad to see it end!  Thanks for coming our way Herway family!

We have been wanting to do Lagoon for a few years now so when the Trujillos invited us we knew we had to do it!  The Bawdens joined us too so that made it really fun.  There is actually a really good deal during the summer where tickets are 2 for 1 after 5 pm.  So we got to play for 6 hours at half price and it was awesome.  Our big kids loved every second of it!  We were so proud of how brave they were riding some of the “bigger” rides they have there.  Jack’s favorite ride was Tidal Wave and Sophie loved the Dueling Dragons.  Luke did great.  He stayed up the whole night which was crazy and loved riding the carousel and train.  So we had a a scary moment at the end of the night.  As we were heading out Dan asked me if I had the spare keys for the van in my purse.  And I told him that I kept them at home so no I did not have them.  And he told me that he couldn’t find the keys, they weren’t in his pocket.  So we went into panic mode.  It was already 11 pm and I just had the vision of us sleeping over at Lagoon!  So while I went to ask for help from the workers, Dan went off to the Wild Mouse ride where he had just been with Jack.  (Side Note:  When we were last at Lagoon 8 years ago, Dan lost his cell phone on Wild Mouse.  It is a crazy ride!)  I was just getting the workers together to come take me to our car to unlock it so we could get our garage opener and one of Dan’s sisters could take us home to get the spare keys.  We were in for a long night!  But suddenly Dan appeared and he got them.  They were just pulling them off the Wild Mouse ride when he showed up there.  What are the chances??  Two things lost out of his pockets on that ride!  He will never be allowed to take anything on that ride again!  Ha!  Prayers were answered and we were able to all drive away together in our van.  We had an awesome time.  Our kids are always asking to go back.  Sophie calls it “Little Disneyland”.  It is pretty fun!
