California Christmas

We had the best time this Christmas in California.  It was so nice.  Our drive down was lovely and uneventful.  The kids watched movie after movie and never had meltdowns.  Our time with over the holidays was lovely.  We played games and more games.  We did puzzles.  The kids were happy and entertained by their new toys.  We had plenty of Sequoia cookies and my dad did his usual BBQ feasts nightly.  It just seemed so wonderful the whole time.  Leading up to this Christmas we were saying this was our last year to travel consistently to CA for the holidays.  But after our time there, we are not so sure.  I think the greatest and most important difference than the previous 2 times we’ve been (2008 & 2010) was that we had no newborn to contend with it!  And it was bliss.  So here is the Christmas recap!

Christmas Eve

Started out Christmas Eve morning with my mom making thin pancakes.  The kids were all about helping her and immediately pushed the stools in to get in on the action.  It was pretty cute and oh so delicious.

Later that afternoon we went to Sequoia sandwiches for lunch.  We love it there.  Their sandwiches are delicious but mostly we love their cookies.  They are huge and taste so wonderful.  It is a B-town essential every time we visit.  After lunch all of us grown kids went and saw the Hobbit.  Loved it.  Thanks for watching the kiddos parentals!

In the evening we went to the Petersen’s for a delicious Cafe Rio style dinner.  And then we did the traditional chime playing.  It is pretty fun and we sound pretty awesome.  Pretty good after all these years of practice.  This year Randy mixed it up a bit and brought out a bunch of Grandpa Lester’s vintage instruments.  The kids had the best time with this.  And we sang almost ever Christmas carol.  It was so great and really put me in the Christmas spirit.

Before heading off to bed, the kids made sure to leave Santa and his reindeer their treat.  Jack really wanted to make sure the reindeer were taken care of and dumped a load of carrots on the plate.  Cute kids so excited for Christmas morning!

Christmas Day

We got to sleep in a little longer than I expected (6:30 if I remember right?).  And then it was time for presents.  And here are all the photos.

We had a great time.  Jack was adorable when he opened “Where’s my water” game.  I wrote on the package that it was from Swampy, the main character in the game, and he thought that was so fun!  My parents surprised us with all with a trip to Disneyland.  That was a definite highlight of Christmas morning.  And will be its own post in the next few days.  What a great and merry Christmas we had!

  2. What a great Christmas! Fun to see the presents you got. I think I need that stuffed mushroom recipe…it looks so good! Can’t wait to hear more about Disneyland!

  3. Thanks for the blog! I love reading your comments and the pictures are great. My favorite of this bunch is Sophs on daddy’s lap at the piano. Although, that one of Kerri with the two kiddos is adorable as well. Make sure this in the book for next year. Thanks again for that wonderful present. I love my babies!
